Lighting is one of the easiest ways to make a design stand apart, and clients increasingly expect it — for visibility at the counter and for ambiance after dark. Shiloh and Eclipse can be prepped at the factory for external lighting (under wall cabinets, under floating shelves, at the toe kick), for internal lighting (inside the cabinet, on the side or top panels), and for a continuous pull that lights a handleless wall. Internal LED prep, released in June, is taking off. Here's the full picture in one place.

One rule applies to every option below: the LED tape itself is not supplied. W.W. Wood routes the cabinet and supplies the channel; the dealer sources the LED lighting locally.

1. Internal LED prep — light the inside of the cabinet

LED prep can be ordered on the interior panels of a cabinet. W.W. Wood routes a channel into the panel; you order CLC (Cabinet Lighting Channel) to sit in the route and house your locally sourced LED tape.

Why designers use it

  • Illuminate the entire interior of a cabinet
  • Showcase art and decorative glassware in glass-door uppers
  • Highlight two-tone interiors

Pricing

  • $100 list per panel routed. Apply one modification per panel.
  • Example: vertical prep on both the left and right side panels = 2 × $100 = $200 list.
  • Order enough CLC to field-trim and insert into the route at installation.

How to specify it

  1. Choose the direction of the route: Vertical (on the side panels) or Horizontal (on the top panel).
  2. Choose the offset: Front, Middle, or Back (positions below).
  3. Apply one $100 list modification per panel.
  4. Add CLC to the order to field-trim and install.

Position (code)Wall cabinetsBase, vanity & tall

Middle (HM / VM)6″ from front edge of panel11½″ from front edge of panel
Back (HB / VB)3″ from back edge of top panel3″ from back edge of top panel

H = horizontal (top panel), V = vertical (side panels). For quotes on anything outside these positions, contact W.W. Wood customer service.

Caveats — read before you quote

  • Horizontal routes are not available in corner cabinets.
  • Each routed panel is $100 list. Left and right vertical prep on one cabinet is $200.
  • Stacked wall cabinets with vertical prep get the route through both the top and bottom sections.

2. External LED prep — Cabinet Lighting Channel

For light below the cabinetry, W.W. Wood grooves the cabinet for a field-installed CLC Cabinet Lighting Channel. There are three applications:

Wall cabinets

  • Order the Prep Wall For Lighting modification (spec book page C2).
  • The cabinet bottom shelf is grooved for the CLC channel, and the cabinet sides get a pre-grooved wire chase.
  • Wall cabinet sides not ordered with finished ends are notched for a continuous run of light across the cabinets.
  • The channel protrudes 1/8″ below the bottom of the wall cabinet.
  • Extruded aluminum, anodized aluminum finish, frosted diffuser.
  • Available on all wall cabinets that have a bottom shelf, except wall blind corners.

Floating shelves

  • For floating shelves with the Prep Floating Shelf For Lighting modification (page C2).
  • The bottom shelf gets a centered groove for the CLC channel.
  • The channel protrudes 1/8″ below the bottom of the shelf.
  • Extruded aluminum, anodized aluminum finish.
  • Only available on Floating Shelves (FLS) and floating vanities.
  • The same groove is available on the 1¼″ Edge-Banded Shelf as the PFSL option.

Toe kick

  • For base, vanity, or utility cabinets with the Prep Base Cabinet For Toe Kick Lighting modification (page C2).
  • The bottom shelf is grooved for the CLC channel and the sides get a pre-grooved wire chase.
  • Base cabinet sides not ordered with finished ends are notched for a continuous run.
  • Extruded aluminum, anodized aluminum finish, frosted diffuser.
  • Available on all base cabinets with a recessed toe kick.

3. Continuous pull — handleless and lit

If a wall cabinet also needs to be handleless, the continuous-pull option gives you both: a profile along the bottom of the cabinet that serves as the finger pull and houses an LED diffuser.

Section drawing and examples of the continuous pull with LED: GWL profile 1-1/16 inch wide and 13/16 inch tall with LED diffuser, wire chase, and wall and wall square corner examples
  • The GWL profile measures 1 1/16″ wide by 13/16″ tall, with an LED diffuser in the channel.
  • A wire chase runs to the profile at the wall cabinet bottom shelf.
  • Available in wall, stacked wall, or square corner cabinets (examples shown as FWC-W and FWC-WSC).

Which one to use

  • Task light on the counter → Prep Wall For Lighting (CLC under the wall cabinets).
  • Display uppers, glass doors, two-tone interiors → Internal LED prep.
  • Open shelving or floating vanities → Floating-shelf channel.
  • Night light and a floating look → Toe-kick channel.
  • Handleless wall cabinets → Continuous pull.

Remember to coordinate the electrician early: the factory supplies the routes, wire chases, and channel; the LED tape, drivers, and wiring are local.
